Like many schools, Canyon View and the rest of the Agua Fria Union High School District turned to virtual learning in mid-March and ended the in-person school year entirely by the end of that month.
All of the students are now masked, making it hard to read facial expressions.
At the end of November, Canyon View is empty again, save for clubs and teams going about their activities after school hours.
While she worries about the students' mental health and how they are coping emotionally at home, ultimately, what the students will lose in content this year, she thinks they'll gain in resiliency, time management, patience and forgiveness.
By third grade, however, she was reading proficiently.
Students are situated 6 feet apart in the classroom.
